Reference Manual Preface
The Herb Walk deals specifically with common, widespread, edible, medicinal and poisonous wild plants. Space will not permit me to put complete information in this manual about the medicinal and edible uses for each plant nor the dosage or application. I included what I felt was the most pertinent information in helping you become aquainted with these wild plants.
You will want to use the video and this manual as a companion to The Herb Walk Medicinal Guide Book and Nature’s Medicine Chest Identification and Use Cards which do have more detailed information about plant description and use.
Once you learn the configuration of a plant, you should know that it does not change. It may look a little different sometimes because of its age, size, and fullness, which can vary depending on the amount of water, sun, and nutrients it receives.
One way to become an expert at identifying plants is to observe several examples until you are acquainted with it. You will soon learn to recognize it whenever you see it.
After watching the video carefully, it may help to collect a particular plant you are interested in identifying. Bring it back, and compare it with the video example until you are sure of its identity.
People are finding out that as simple medicines and nutritional supplements, herbs often do the job of curing common complaints just as effectively, sometimes even more so, than many of the commercial pills found at the local drugstore.
You don’t have to be an outdoor enthusiast, botanist, or herbalist to learn to identify the plants around you and discover their many healthful benefits.
